If you talk to car engineers on a private base (not one of these official talks on car shows) you get that BEV* cars are definitely not the future and no one really wants to build them. Problem now is, that the chinese state has decided that due to the enormous pollution in their cities they want to switch to EV cars so they can produce the dirt outside the city and locally clean up their shit. So every car after 2025 (not 100% sure on that exact year) every new car in China has to be electric. With european car brands that sell up to 50% of all their cars to china, this is now a huge problem. So they have now two choices, start to invest hugely in a technology that they don't really want to build and be 'addicted' to china (because most of the batterie cells and raw materials are comming from china) or simply loose have of their sales numbers...
-> To sum up, the car manufacturer only change to EV/BEV because of politics and not because they want to 'make up their mistakes' or because they think now that the technology is superior.
2. And these new batteries are still bs. Take the batteries from the rimac c2 for example. with all the high tech and carbon battery box they are able to store 120kWh while weighing still 700kg. thats like 20% better than what Tesla does in their p100d cars. and wtf has the amount of torque to do with the battery?
3. You can't just build an all electric c-class with the same base than an ice one without making huge compromises so therefore you barely see a car model that is at the same time a BEV and ICE*.
4. The 65 engine from amg is f*cking old now, that thing still has only 3 valves per cylinder. If amg would want to make a v12 that would kick the v8's asses that would mean a constant reengineering of the engine (like they did with the v8). but because they only sell a few they no longer want to produce it.
5. That was always what the guys from rolls have been telling, a sales guy from rolls told me that already last year i geneva. The only people that were grumbeling that it is based on a bmw chassis are you ;)
*BEV=Battery Electric Vehicle; *ICE=Internal Combustion Engine
